Bartleby....

After reading the story of Bartleby, the Scrivener, I have come to to the conclusion that Bartleby is mentally ill. Although this story is told in the first person perspective of a narrator, which could be considered unreliable, I still believe it to be true.

If Bartleby were to exist in today's society then he would most likely have a Facebook. His profile picture would just be him, by himself, taking a picture in a bathroom with the mirror. There would be no others in this picture because he has no friends. He would be in the bathroom taking the mirror picture because I find it weird when people do this and I believe Bartleby to be a strange man. He would have no pictures tagged of him or any other photos at all.

His friends would consist solely of his coworkers, the only people he knows. The wall of his page would have a few impersonal messages from Nippers and Turkey. Bartleby would have two applications, Spark and Bumper sticker. He would have Spark because he is lonely and seeking companionship and does not have the personality or time for real dating. He is deathly afraid of talking to women so cyber dating is his only option. He would have Bumper sticker because Ginger Nut made him add it. Ginger is the only one that ever gives Bartleby stickers.

If one were to browse through his past statuses they would find him to be depressing. They would say things like Bartleby is tired or Bartleby is working. He would have no comments on his statuses because nobody cares enough about him.

Bartleby would spend much time however, Facebook stalking others. He would never comment or write messages but he loves to look through people's photo albums and wish he could be more like them, more normal.

After Bartleby dies in the end everybody in the office would just go along with their daily routines. Nobody would create a Facebook group in remembrance of him.
